Position - ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

MDB, Inc. is a privately-owned, strategic consulting firm providing communication, information management, public education and engagement, and policy analysis services for government agencies, nonprofits, and corporations. MDB has offices in Washington, DC, and Research Triangle Park, NC. We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized individual to serve as the Office Manager of our Research Triangle park office.

Responsibilities:

  • Support senior-level and project-level staff
    • Track project expenditures and provide periodic reports
    • Process expense reports and invoices
    • Assist with travel arrangements
    • Support filing and recordkeeping processes
    • Take meeting notes and generate meeting summaries
    • Support project work as directed
    • Order office supplies
    • Assist with scheduling meetings
    • Maintain schedules for shared resources (e.g., conference rooms)
    • Interact with vendors to maintain equipment (e.g., copier)
    • Assist with office correspondence
    • Assist with preparation of proposals
  • Assist the Director of Events with conference planning
    • Research hotels and meeting facilities
    • Gather information for the creation of meeting websites
    • Create meeting websites
    • Monitor meeting registration
    • Monitor sleeping room blocks
    • Assist with on-site logistics including audio visual, meeting registration, etc.
    • Provide travel support to meeting participants

Qualifications:

  • Self-starter with the ability to engage in a variety of projects and activities
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent follow-through skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including proof-reading and editing
  • Experienced in administrative support
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a variety of people in a courteous, effective and professional manner
  • College degree preferred
  • One to three years of experience

Desired Skills: High proficiency in MS Office Suite applications with particular strength in Microsoft Excel desired.

Salary: This is a full-time position; compensation commensurate with experience.

Position - ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SCIENCE RESEARCH and COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST

MDB, Inc. is a growing strategic consulting firm providing communication, information management, public education and engagement, and policy analysis services for government agencies, nonprofits, and corporations. We are especially known for our extensive work in the fields of public and environmental health and worker safety. MDB, Inc. is currently looking for an Environmental Health Science Research and Communication Specialist for projects in support of human and ecological health programs at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). This position will be located in MDB’s Durham, NC office.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the EHS Research and Communication Specialist will be responsible for conducting research and preparing materials in language and format appropriate for diverse target audiences within the EPA and NIEHS as well as the general public.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Support senior staff to conduct research and analyses related to environmental public health topics.
  • Create audience-appropriate summaries of findings from federally-funded environmental health research programs.
  • Work closely with MDB staff, federal clients, and academics to achieve a high level of readability, consistency, and technical accuracy of web-based and print materials.
  • Interact with clients to assess needs; provide solutions for efficient project management.
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and executing all phases of projects. Oversee schedules to ensure the accomplishment of specified milestones within budgetary restrictions.
  • Ensure project goals are achieved according to client expectations.
  • Anticipate, recognize, and resolve issues.

The ideal candidate will have MA/MS in environmental science, biological science, science and health communications, or environmental policy and 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Additionally, the incumbent will need:

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • High-level writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to convey complex environmental public health concepts (e.g., human health, environmental justice, environmental health, environmental remediation) in a clear, direct style accessible and comprehensible to diverse target audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.

Position - WEB DEVELOPER

MDB, Inc. provides technical, analytical, and IT support services to human and ecological health programs at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).

We are seeking an entry/mid-level Web Developer for a full-time position to work with a team of web and application developers to support websites and online tools for a government research institute. This is currently a 6 month contract position, with the possibility of up to a five year extension. This position requires experience with: HTML, XHTML, and CSS. JavaScript, jQuery, Web 2.0, XML, Acrobat, content management systems, and Cold Fusion a plus. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is critical.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Work quickly and carefully to complete edits requested by customers.
  • Develop plans for completing larger projects.
  • Suggest new solutions to improve existing websites.
  • Review work by colleagues.
  • Investigate and learn emerging technologies.

Required Years of Experiences: 2-3 years of HTML or related programming experience.

Required Degree: None. Degree or certificate in IT Management, Computer Science, or related field preferred.

Required Basic Qualifications: Code/modify pages using HTML/XHTML; layout web pages with CSS; edit images. Must be flexible. The ability to work independently, and as part of a team, is critical.
