Provided consultation for Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP regarding EPA programs

In July 2005, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP approached MDB, Inc. to provide advice and assistance for its client on Federal environmental programs. Specifically, MDB was tasked with providing consultation on how to achieve an effective agreement that met the critical private and public environmental goals of the participating organizations and on how to establish an assessment process for evaluating the potential human and ecological impacts associated with mining.

Over 12 months, MDB participated in a series of management conference calls and meetings across the country that included EPA Headquarters and Regional managers; senior attorneys; company officials; and other federal, state, and tribal officials. During that time, MDB participated in large stakeholder meetings in EPA Regional offices, as well as in smaller policy-level meetings with senior government representatives in Washington, DC.

MDB also consulted separately with the senior attorneys and the client company's senior officials to provide insight on how the scientific and regulatory tools could be applied at the site in order to address the wide variety of stakeholder interests. MDB and the company prepared research papers on environmental issues, evaluated alternative approaches to addressing the environmental concerns, and recommended optimal solutions to the difficult environmental and public-health issues arising at this site. These consulting services involved critical scientific, policy, and procedural issues to promote effective decision-making at the site.
