Risk Assessment

MDB staff members are experts in calculating the probability of harmful effects from human activities; this expertise includes hazard identification, dose-response analysis, and exposure assessment and quantification. MDB staff can determine the qualitative nature of a contaminant’s potential adverse consequences, the relationship between dose and the probability or incidence of effect, and the amount of a contaminant that a population will receive.

MDB staff led the development of the Superfund Program guidance used today as the national framework for conducting site-specific risk assessments. MDB staff members support the application of this guidance to meet the unique nature of sites or policies most accurately and fairly.
